Wang Lijun's Works are now Participating in Shekou Gallery's Exhibition "Focus".
The concept of "Focus" has taken many forms, each with its own interpretation. Originating in moral philosophy and gradually extending to both inward reflection and outward observation, it has been interpreted and reinterpreted over the centuries according to different needs and perspectives. Today, the notion of "Focus" may have moved far beyond its original meaning. What remains is the pursuit of understanding through reflection, creation, and the examination of things. By treating "Focus" as an active process, we seek to uncover the essence of objects, attending to their qualities while pursuing a deeper understanding of the principles underlying them.
In Wang Lijun's artistic practice, the minute and the monumental, the point of origin and the infinite, form two opposing poles of his creative logic. The artist explores the forms and implications of relationships between objects, identifying confrontation and danger while investigating tension and balance. Working with wood, steel wire, water, furniture, chalk, and everyday objects, he carves a cross-section of social life into the natural world, allowing objects to speak within space while incorporating gravity, time, and space into his creative process.
Familiar objects placed in precarious situations, fragile balances, and seemingly unstable structures bring the formal beauty of his works into focus at a single visible moment. Beyond this moment lie invisible yet enduring boundaries of safety, balances painstakingly maintained amid unseen opposing forces, and the coexistence of absurdity and reality. His works reveal an ongoing dialogue between transience and permanence. This embodies Wang Lijun's understanding of "Focus" and the spirit of his artistic practice.
