Unknown Custom (2018) by Richard Deacon will be presented at the 2nd Pingyao International Sculpture Festival. The exhibition will open in Pingyao on July 5 2019, with Ulrich Rauck and Peng Feng as curators. The sculpture festival takes place in the city as an outdoor exhibition space, while the main indoor exhibition space is selected in the diesel engine plant. The exhibition invites artists from all over the world to make interactive sculptures to explore and explore the possibility of the continuation and extension of art and culture at present and in the future with an international perspective and thinking, under the characteristics of de-centralization in the era of globalization.
The "Custom" collection began in 2012 when Richard Deacon split the stainless steel tubes to create complex shapes by connecting the convex and concave sections along their lengths. The word "Custom" in the name of a work can be associated with the word "Custom" in American culture, meaning that the standard model is modified, personalized, and embodied. However, the word Custom has a very wide range of meanings, including Custom, border management, social customs, and subcultural rituals. In 2018, Chad Deacon held his solo exhibition New Sculpture at Beijing Commune, in which he also exhibited two new pieces from the "custom" series, which continue and develop the working methods of the series.
