Yan Bing was born in 1980 in Tianshui, Gansu, and graduated from the Central Academy of Fine Arts (China) in 2007, 3rd Studio of the Oil Painting Department. He currently lives and works in Beijing. Yan’s work centers on mundane or even primitive everyday objects and probes into their spiritual dimension through painting. The seemingly prosaic items of daily life unveil the tenderness and warmth in the artist's perception of life. A complex of emotions is intricately weaved in Yan’s paintings where his sentiment and speculation, pain and joy, permeate. His works with some sort of classical traits reflect the artist’s profound rumination on the relationship between the psyche, the individual experience, and the surroundings. Yan’s recent solo exhibitions have been held at START Museum (Shanghai), Guangdong Museum of Art (Guangzhou), Minsheng Art Museum (Shanghai), Taikang Space (Beijing), UCCA (Beijing), etc. He is also a participating artist in numerous group exhibitions at institutions including CAFA Museum (Beijing), Red Brick Art Museum (Beijing), Minsheng Art Museum (Beijing), Ohio State University (Ohio), RH Contemporary Art, (New York), Xi'an Art Museum (Xi’an), Beijing; Guanshanyue Art Museum (Shenzhen), and G Museum (Nanjing).
