Yin Xiuzhen

Yin Xiuzhen was born in Beijing in 1963. She graduated from the Fine Arts Department of Capital Normal University in 1989. She now lives and works in Beijing. Yin Xiuzhen began her journey with contemporary art practice in the early 1990s. Incorporating experiences and memories of different people and cultural imprints of different generations, her work is experimental and diverse. She explores and reflects upon a wide range of materials and media, spanning installation, performance, porcelain, photography, video, painting, sculpture, and many others, which expands the forms of art practice. 

Yin was a participating artist at Venice Biennale (2019, 2007), Kyiv Biennial (2012), Yokohama Triennale (2011), Shanghai Biennale(2008), Sydney Biennale (2004),São Paulo Biennale (2004). Her solo exhibitions were hosted by The Museum of Modern Art (New York), Groninger Museum (Groningen), Kunsthalle Dusseldorf (Dusseldorf), PACE Beijing (Beijing), Beijing Commune (Beijing), etc. Her group exhibitions were held at Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum (New York), San Francisco Museum of Modern Art (San Francisco), Center Pompidou (Paris) Turner Contemporary (UK) Hamburger Bahnhof Contemporary Art Museum (Berlin), Museum of Fine Arts (Boston), Museum of Contemporary Art (Chicago), Asian Civilizations Museum (Singapore), Guangdong Museum of Art (Guangzhou), Los Angeles County Museum of Art (Los Angeles), Mori Art Museum (Tokyo), National Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art (Seoul), Today Art Museum (Beijing), National Art Museum of China (Beijing), Ullens Center for Contemporary Art (Beijing), Power Station of Art (Shanghai). In 2014, Phaidon published a monograph on Yin as part of their Contemporary Artist series, making her the second female Asian artist to ever be selected. Her works are collected by important museums and art institutions around the world, such as: Groningen Museum (Netherlands), Kunsthalle Museum (Dusseldorf), White Rabbit Art Museum (Sydney), Mori Art Museum (Tokyo), Ullens Center for Contemporary Art (Hong Kong), K11 Art Foundation (Hong Kong), M+ Museum (Hong Kong), etc.
