Ma Qiusha solo exhibition is currently on display at MiMA, which runs until June 3, 2018. As part of "NOW: A Dialogue on Female Chinese Contemporary Artists in Chinese Contemporary Art", the exhibition was jointly launched by the Central Academy of Fine Arts, Tate Britain and the British Chinese Contemporary Art Centre.

Ma Qiusha's work often explores the cultural differences between herself and previous generations through autobiographical lens. She focuses on the emotional states of people affected by family expectations, and explores the subtle and complex relationships among people with conflicts and dilemmas in real life as her creative propositions, so as to correspond to the anxiety and uncertainty generated by the current materialization in China. Her early work is a narrative of her own perception of personal existence, an attempt to find a connection with the common. In her subsequent works, Ma Qiusha brought her personal body perception into the public space and kept switching between individuals and groups.

In addition to seven of her previous single-frequency video works, the exhibition will also present two new photographic works, 1990 (2018) and World (2018), commissioned by MiMA. A series of works explore issues such as personal identity, gender and the impact of consumerism on the fabric of Chinese society.

"1990" is a new series of photography works created by Ma Qiusha using the blue sun technology. Since 2017, Ma qiusha has been exploring a new series of blue sun photographs. Her collection of China's reform and opening up in the early nineties of magazines, books, brochures, calendars and other publications, she will be in these publications is closely related with the time words of images - especially scenic spot, the female image and body, children, flowers, etc., as her new series research starting point, using blue drying technology to remake of the type of these images is rewritten.
