Hu Xiaoyuan is attending the Red Brick Art Museum group exhibition Rituals of Signs and Metamorphosis

2018. 11. 03-2019. 04. 07

Hu Xiaoyuan is participating in a group exhibition of 10 artists from different countries and regions on the Asian continent, "Yi Li", curated by Tarek Abou El Fetouh, The artists including Chinese artists xiao-yuan Hu (Hu Xiaoyuan), Singapore artist Ho Tzu Nyen (Ho Tzu Nyen), Indian artist Anne · Kapoor (Anish Kapoor), a Japanese artist wooden child (Tomoko Kashiki), South Korea artists chan-jeong Park (Park Chan - Kyong), Taiwan artists Liu Zhaoxing (Jawshing Arthur Liou), Russian artist taos mahaney cut Eva (Taus Makhacheva, Lebanese artist Walid Raad, Thai artists Apichatpong Weerasethakul and Chai Siris.

The works of the ten artists are placed within the ideological system of history and the present, making unintentional, unknown and mysterious. The work, with its ideas and forms, materials and media, posture and action, forms an imaginary path of pomp, and at the same time explores the different expressions of "metamorphosis". This poetic journey leads us to question the certainties of narrative and to reflect on and pursue the portents.

In two new works on display, Wood/purlin No. 7 (2018) and Wood/purlin No. 8 (2018), the artist mixes the properties of wood and silk and fuses the two materials with her time and will through the process of extraction, covering and replacement. The resulting artwork shows that there is a subtle and infinite possibility of materialization under the determinism of finite forms. In another set of three-frequency video devices, "The Ice Crossing" (2012), an unbearable inner emotional and physical tension drives the performers in front of the sea to struggle against the ever-changing nature.
